Questions

Is my file uploaded to convert it?

No. The converter is LibreOffice, the free office suite, running inside this browser tab. Your file is read and converted on this device and never sent anywhere.

Will the PDF look exactly like it does in Microsoft Office?

Very close for most files. Fonts that come with Microsoft Office are swapped for free fonts with the same letter widths (Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman), so lines break the same way. A font the converter doesn't have is drawn with a close match, which can move a line break or two.

Are tables, pictures, headers and page numbers kept?

Yes: tables, pictures, headers and footers, page numbers, lists and the page size and margins set in the document all carry over.

Why does the first conversion take a while?

The converter is a whole office program. The first time it is downloaded (about 75 MB) and set up; after that it is kept in this browser and starts in a few seconds, even without internet.

Does it work on a phone?

It needs a recent browser with a lot of memory, so a computer works best. On a phone, the Anvy PDF app is lighter.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and changed inside your browser, on your own device. There is no upload step and no server that receives it. You can even switch off your internet after the page has loaded and most tools keep working.
